From Silver to Gold

Just who is Frank Sanders?

If Frank had made a different choice, perhaps one needn’t ask. But he did the unthinkable. He made a decision that shocked his fans, his friends, his wife, and his family….

Frank Sanders was a name synonymous with excellence in hockey to a Minnesota hockey fan in the 1970’s. He was a high school hockey star leading his team to the State High School Hockey Tournament, a feat coveted by many players in all of Minnesota. While playing at the University of Minnesota, he and his team won the WCHA Conference Championship of 1970 and Frank was captain and Most Valuable Player on the NCAA Championship Runners-Up team of 1971. After declining an offer from the NHL Boston Bruins, Frank went on to win a silver medal in the 1972 Olympic Games in Sapporo, Japan. After playing with the Olympic Hockey Team, Frank signed a one-year contract to play for the Minnesota Fighting Saints, a professional hockey team with the World Hockey Association.

Frank had the world by the tail. He was on top of his game, enjoying all the fame and fortune that comes with the notoriety of being a professional athlete. After rising to the pinnacle of his field, he did the unimaginable; giving it all up in search of the ultimate prize. Read the compelling and inspirational autobiography: From Silver to Gold; One Man’s Pursuit of the Ultimate Prize by Frank Sanders and Tony Ducklow of how Frank chose the path less tread in search of a higher calling impressed on him as a young man.

“Frank always had the passion to succeed, both in athletics and in life. He carried that forward into his ministry. This book is a wonderful read of a terrific man.”

~Lou Nanne, former Minnesota Gopher; player, coach, and General Manager of the Minnesota North Stars

“An autobiography by Frank Sanders should be a ‘must read’ on everyone’s list of things to do! He’s a role model, not only to athletes, but to everyone who has had the good fortune of meeting him.”

~ Wally Wakefield, Sports Writer Ramsey County Review

“I have known and admired Frank Sanders first as a feared opponent; a huge, tough, rugged defenseman! Second as a teammate; great leader, great player, caring and unselfish. Third (and most important) as a Christian brother. A man who could have had a long and prosperous career as a professional hockey player, but listened to the Lord who called him to be a player on His team.”

~ Bill Butters, Assistant Coach Univeristy of Wisconsin, Madison; former Minnesota Gopher, Minnesota North Star, and Minnesota Fighting Saint
